ENVIRONMENT: Installation of a wave buoy in Saint-Martin

0

As part of the Carib-Coast project, a wave buoy is installed by the Notekmed company about 1 km from the coast of Tintamare. The company has applied for and obtained an authorization for temporary occupation of the public maritime domain. "The authorization is planned for a period of 18 months and [under the terms of the period] the company has undertaken to transfer the buoy to the COM", specifies the latter.

Such a buoy comprises, among other things, a light beacon, a current profiler and a weather station. She is fed  by solar panels and transmits the collected data in real time. It allows several measurements to be made: directional swell, current profile, weather and physicochemical parameters.

The installation of the buoy was commissioned by the BRGM which is piloting the Carib-Coast project financed by the European INTERREG Caribbean program. This project “aims to pool, co-construct and disseminate surveillance, coastal risk prevention and climate change adaptation approaches”. NortekMed has already carried out a 2020-day measurement campaign at the end of 100 with 12 profiling currentometers deployed all around Guadeloupe and Martinique.

All the data collected in the field will help to better understand coastal hydrodynamics and erosion and thus provide decision-support tools for the prevention of coastal natural risks.
