Teaching: Walking in black and many questions to come…

0

Last Sunday, a few dozen parents of students and teachers met in Grand-Case in front of the all dressed in black. In black to signify their mourning. A meeting organized jointly by the parents of students and the teachers' union.

Last Sunday, while the activity of the lolos was in full swing, teachers and parents of students gathered under the same banner at the start of the school year which promises to be difficult.

The choice of the place was strategic, it was a question of taking advantage of the presence of the cameras of France 3 present on the island at the approach of the sad anniversary. When questioned, the demonstrators said they were disappointed with the broken promises and worried about this new school year.

Last year, everyone was asked to show good will in the face of this exceptional post-cyclone situation, but no one expected to have to pile up in hardly better conditions. For those who have not really followed the adventures of the various establishments on the island, a little reminder is essential. Last year, teachers and students returned two months late. Until then, everything is normal, nobody could do anything about it. And then, throughout the year, we had to juggle between alternate schedules for some schools, the lack of equipment, staff, infrastructure ...

"We are doing this to thwart communications from the COM which does not take its responsibilities" Dominique Louisy, union delegate

At the Marigot vocational high school, to name but one, no more permanent contracts, no cooking workshops before the end of the year, mechanical workshops in a dismal state, broken windows and doors, classroom without electricity, etc.

Imagine taking a bac test in the afternoon in a room in full sun without air conditioning or fan ... Just imagine, what happens in a classroom that does not really close when it rains ... Imagine teachers who share the books to prepare their lessons ... Imagine them buying their reams of paper themselves to prepare the handouts ...

And we don't have enough room here to give all the details… So, this weekend, after having been able to visit the premises at the end of last week, parents and teachers decided that they could not accept that the second year post-Irma still takes place under the guise of emergency. _NB
