On the occasion of the launch of the "Pretty Month of Europe in Saint Martin", a seminar was held recently at the Interprofessional Consular Chamber of Saint Martin in the presence of the Prefect Delegate of the Northern Islands, Anne Laubies, from MP, Daniel Gibbs, Senator, Guillaume Arnell and CCISM President, Jean Arnell.

The opportunity for Erika Merion, director of the polling institute "Qualistat Etudes & Conseil" to comment on the results of the survey carried out on the reputation of Europe in Saint-Martin.

The European Union is therefore known by more than 7 Saint-Martinois out of 10. Nevertheless, the age and seniority of presence on the island strongly condition the reputation of the EU.

Thus, while this notoriety does not exceed among those 60 and over, it reaches 83% among 15-24 year-olds and peaks at 88% among people living in Saint-Martin for less than 5 years.

Despite the still very present idea that the European Union remains a distant whole in which some find it difficult to recognize themselves, it is generally well perceived and 85% of the respondents affirm to have a positive representation of it.

Respondents also recognize that EU intervention contributes to the competitiveness of Saint Martin and is essential for its development. Despite everything, they also perceive a mismatch between the funds and the specifics of their territory.

Saint-Martin residents deplore the complexity of assembling the files giving access to European funds, a complexity which in their eyes accentuates the inequalities between the entrepreneurs of the island. _AF
