EDUCATION: More than half of college students are scholarship holders

Today is back to school for students but it is also the opening of college scholarship applications.

The college grant helps families with modest incomes by reducing canteen costs or expenses relating to the purchase of school supplies or textbooks. For the year 2022-2023, the amounts of aid vary between 105 and 459 euros.

In Saint-Martin, 44,2% of middle school students come from disadvantaged socio-professional categories compared to 40,7% at the national level or 35,1% at the academic level. Only 10% of college students come from privileged or very privileged socio-professional categories, compared to a third at the national level.

At the start of the 2021 academic year, more than half of middle school students were scholarship holders (53,2%), including a third at level 3. In 2020, 54,8% of middle school students were scholarship holders, including 35,1% at level 3 By way of comparison, at the national level, the rate of scholarship students at level 3 is around 28%.

In high school

In high school, nearly 44% of students at Robert Weinum high school were scholarship holders against 21% at the national level and 46% at the vocational high school against 39,5% at the national level. Respectively 19 and 26% of them are scholarship holders at level 6. The amount of the scholarship varies between 147 and 312 euros.
