If Ormond Jowett had a tricky start by losing to the young Yuri Hassel, he quickly recovered by winning his 6 games, in particular against the favorite, Yashwant Vaswani and against the surprising Ad Weerensteijn, not impressed for his first participation at this stage of the competition.
