Distinction: Two gendarmes honored for having saved a woman from drowning in Baie Rouge

On October 13, three gendarmes from the Thionville mobile gendarmerie squadron took advantage of their day off on the beach at Baie Rouge. 

Given the weather conditions, the sea state is rough and the wind blowing a lot, he decides to cut short their outing. It is at this moment that one of them seems to perceive among the crashing waves of screams.

The gendarmes then try to find out where the cries are coming from and see a person struggling in the waves. Two gendarmes immediately jump into the water to rescue the bather who is swept away by the current. The third gendarme launches the alert during this time.

Despite the state of the sea, the two soldiers manage to bring the woman back to the shore who, exhausted, can no longer stand up. They then carry it to a point sheltered from the winds and close to an access road.

The survivor swimmer is an American tourist who stays not far from there. The gendarmes will therefore warn his friends, who arriving quickly on the scene warmly thank the soldiers for having saved their friend from a certain drowning.

The two gendarmes were congratulated by the prefect who presented them with the bronze medal for acts of courage and dedication.
