Projects that never saw the light of day

Saint-Martin has never missed projects. Whether private or public. But only very few have been successful. That is why today it is difficult to believe in new people. Here are some of the projects announced that have never materialized for various reasons.

• The marigot marina projects

- Developing the bay of Marigot, a political dream! In 1990, the municipality had already commissioned the BRGM via Semsamar (project management) to carry out studies on the feasibility of the development of the seafront.

- One of the most ambitious projects was that of the Canadian group Jutras in the early 2010s. Its ambition was to invest 1 billion euros, of which 988 million in the seafront, 49 million in a shipyard, 13 million in a maritime institute and 60 million in the commercial port. Jutras also wanted to bring in Cirque du Soleil. “Imagine hundreds of boats arriving at the dock to visit the Cirque du Soleil and Marigot,” said Mario Lefebvre, an entertainment consultant involved in the project. "We wait for the community to make up its mind and there are few places where financiers expect policies", commented Mario di Palma; the president of Jutras at the time. "It will not be too late ... I fell in love with Saint-Martin, it is here that my father and I want to invest, but without political will we will be forced to go and invest elsewhere," he confided. Since then, Mario di Palma has nevertheless returned to Saint-Martin, where he created last April a company specializing in business services, Omnigate International.

- The Marigot Bay development project has not however been abandoned by local elected officials. After further studies, a call for applications for concessions was launched at the end of 2016. According to elected officials, several investors had shown a certain interest in the project, but in the end no one had submitted applications.

To be continued in our edition of tomorrow. (source: www.soualigapost.com)
