At the initiative of the President of the Republic, the Government has decided to launch a major national debate on ecological transition, taxation and public expenditure, democracy and citizenship, as well as access to essential services and their organization .
Local consultation led by elected officials
Dialogue is built by relying on the territories and local actors, in particular elected officials from local authorities. The territorial level is where citizens express their expectations and collectively imagine solutions to everyday problems.
Communities can, if they wish, open grievance books where residents can express their comments and ideas. Each community can take the actions it deems relevant: debate, dematerialized citizen consultation, etc.
The State is a facilitator of the debate
The State is present to help local authorities, parliamentarians and all other local actors ready to commit to this process. It is not the organizer but is in a position to listen to the expectations of citizens.
The prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin has sent to the presidents of local authorities the letter from the President of the Republic who presents the Great National Debate and the outlines of its organization. She is available to support them, in particular via a communication kit which will be sent to them in the coming days.
In addition, elected officials from overseas are invited to the Élysée on February 1. They will then be able to give the President of the Republic the first feedback from local consultations.
