Covid-19: Several actions implemented in favor of the most vulnerable

The current health crisis strongly impacts the most fragile. To support them and help them cope in this particularly difficult period, the State services, in conjunction with the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and its associative partners, have taken support measures for those who have the Not needed anymore.

Meal distributions for the most isolated and poorest people

The State provides assistance to the staff of the Le Manteau association, which distributes meals (breakfast and lunch). This service is provided from Monday to Friday and makes it possible to donate basic necessities to isolated families and the most disadvantaged. To help people who are homeless, the Red Cross Mobile Intervention Social Team (EMIS) works in all districts of Saint Martin, by rotation, from Monday to Friday. Volunteers meet people to carry out an initial social assessment, give health advice and distribute food and hygiene products. With the support of the State services, an exceptional device for distributing coupons is also set up to provide access to basic necessities (food, hygiene products). These two actions were reinforced by a continuation of food aid on weekends, thanks to the exceptional opening of the Red Cross house, in partnership with Le Manteau, on Saturday morning and an EMIS raid. of the Red Cross on Sunday morning. The Prefecture launched a call for volunteers from agents of the State administrations in order to reinforce the staff of the Red Cross for the preparation of food parcels and the participation in marauders.

Breaking isolation: solidarity with vulnerable people and women victims of violence

In order to allow people with reduced mobility (age, handicap) who are experiencing even more difficulties to go to shops and pharmacies due to confinement, the State, in partnership with the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and support logistics of the COBRACED association, has set up a home delivery system for essential purchases (food, medicines). Psychological monitoring of these people is also provided by COBRACED. As part of its Solidarity Pact, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin also relies on COBRACED to distribute free groceries and meals to vulnerable or isolated people (unit price of the meal prepared by the CTOS: € 3,50).

This period of confinement also requires special vigilance on the situation of women victims of domestic violence. The teams of the Trait d'union association - lawyers, social worker, psychologists and social worker in the gendarmerie - are strongly mobilized. Victims of violence and harassment can benefit from financial aid, food aid (food collection twice a week with the support of supermarkets and volunteers), psychological support and well-being baskets.

Sheltering sick people with no fixed abode

Homeless people are particularly vulnerable to the virus. Some could be sick without their condition justifying hospitalization. To anticipate these situations, the State services (Prefecture, DJSCS, ARS) have mobilized to create a temporary specialized accommodation center, which will allow identified patients to rest in conditions guaranteeing their integrity and safety and in compliance with containment rules. The Le Manteau association will ensure the proper functioning of this structure.
