The President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, Mr. Daniel Gibbs, sent, on Monday April 13, a letter to the Minister of Overseas Annick Girardin, requesting the government with regard to Decree No. 2020-377, so that he deploys substantial reinforcements (human and material resources) to the Louis Constant Fleming hospital in Saint-Martin, as part of the fight against Covid-19.

The Saint-Martin hospital center previously identified its needs and announced its request for reinforcements at the end of March, according to the prescribed rules, through the ARS Guadeloupe. The hospital has expressed the need for two intensive care anesthesiologists, two emergency physicians and an infectious disease specialist for the coming months, as well as masks and respirators.

Concerned that the resources available in Saint-Martin allow the Hospital to cope with the COVID-19 crisis, without negatively impacting the treatment of other pathologies, President Gibbs alerted the Minister for the Overseas Territories to urgent needs of our hospital, counting on national solidarity.

The President would like to thank the member for Saint-Martin Saint-Barthélemy, Mrs. Claire Guion-Firmin for her intervention with the Government for the benefit of the North Islands and for the collaborative work undertaken with the territorial executive of Saint-Martin, since the beginning of this health crisis.

Recall also that under the leadership of its President, and in connection with the direction of the ARS of Guadeloupe, the community of Saint-Martin has ordered three PCR screening machines (screening for symptoms), as well as 2400 serological kits (search for antibodies), within the framework of a close consultation carried out with the major actors of health in Saint-Martin.

President Gibbs indicates that cooperation has been initiated with the Collectivity of Saint-Barth which shares the same ambitions for screening and protecting its population as Saint-Martin.
