One of the objectives of their mission will be to deploy an advanced medical post in case of need.

"It is not a question of worrying but of anticipating in order to better cope with the case in which," said the prefect, Sylvie Feucher about the deployment from tomorrow of a military unit of 70 men and ten vehicles in part. French. If today the health situation is stable on the French side, "we do not know how it will evolve," said Sylvie Feucher, referring to the Dutch side. The prefect thus wants to remain very careful and above all anticipate the management of an explosion of cases. “We know that the hospital's capacity is weak. So I don't want to have to act at the last moment, ”she says. This is why it asked the army to come to support Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy on a “preventive” basis.

"We will deploy the 33e marine infantry regiment, ”said Rear Admiral Jean Hausermann. "The 33e RIMa is based in Martinique and had been placed in containment at Fort de France to be ready to leave. It will be dropped off at Saint-Martin, at the port of Galisbay, by the Dumont d'Urville in two rotations; the first on Sunday, April 12, the second on Wednesday, April 15, "explains the man who commands the armed forces of the Antilles-Guyana.

"This mission has three objectives: to provide assistance to the population, set up an advanced medical post and create a detached area to allow medical evacuations", specifies Sylvie Feucher.

Advanced medical post

The advanced medical station will be positioned near the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center (CH) and will allow the reception of patients in intensive care if the CH is congested. To date, there are no plans to mount it. However, the army and hospital officials are currently considering how to install it to optimize the situation. The goal is to be able to use it immediately if necessary, insists the prefect. To date, two patients are in intensive care at the CH de Marigot.

The army and hospital officials are also in the process of implementing protocols and procedures for carrying out medical evacuations of Saint-Martin patients to Guadeloupe. They will be insured by helicopter day and night; today they can only be done during the day from Grand Case.

Finally, the soldiers of 33E RIMa from Fort de France who have already intervened in Saint-Martin after Irma, will not be responsible for enforcing containment. The duration of their mission is not fixed. "They will stay as long as they need," said Rear Admiral Jean Hausermann.
