In Sint Maarten, the new Council of Ministers held its first meeting last Thursday at the seat of the government, in the presence in particular of Prime Minister William Marlin and Minister of Finance Richard Gibson. During this meeting, it was decided, among other things, to grant all the officials a half-day leave, on December 23 and 30, if that did not disrupt services. This decision was taken to compensate for the half-days given before Christmas and the New Year, which fell this year during a weekend. The Council of Ministers also decided to allow the day of January 2, 2017 for civil servants "in recognition of their hard work and dedication".
