The member for Saint-Martin challenged the government on the subject of the start of the school year during the question session in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

She recalled that "the establishments which will be opened will not be able to decently accommodate pupils" and to quote the vocational high school which "is not up to standard" and the "educational restaurant which is destroyed". For Claire Guion-Firmin, it's "irresponsible to say that back to school in Saint-Martin will be normal even if it's good for communication".

Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of Education, replied that "the schooling of all the students present [on the island] was ensured". He announced that the census of students who will be in Saint-Martin at the start of the next school year has been completed. "We will have 95% of the students we had for the year 2017/2018, for the year 2018/2019," he said.

And to admit: "we are all fully mobilized, national solidarity has worked to ensure a normal return, as normal as possible when there is a natural disaster".
