Boating friends: remember to respect the speed limits in the coastal zone, TURTLES IN DANGER!

0

Sea turtles are part of Saint-Martin's heritage and contribute to the notoriety of the "Friendly Island". How not to remain insensitive to the reports of nature lovers who are seeing more and more strandings of these protected animals, presenting wounds which are most often fatal.

Just yesterday, a dead turtle washed up in Grand-Case was reported to us by Quentin (thanks to him!) Following what appears to be a collision with a motorized nautical vehicle.

Be aware that these protected animals whose conservation status remains worrying indeed take more than 20 years to reach the age of first reproduction.

We also ask anyone who finds another grounding to inform those in charge of the nature reserve who will analyze the causes in order to improve the situation of our waters.

USERS OF THE SEA, therefore show attention and respect for speed limits in the near coastal area… the sustainability of “our” friends the turtles depends on it! _AF
