Air: Dizzying drop in air traffic at Pôle Caraïbes airport

0

Air traffic at Pointe à Pitre-Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes airport is only 29% of its 2019 level over the first 15 days of November, a consequence of the re-containment and travel restrictions in France due to pandemic of Covid-19.

Already strongly affected by the travel restrictions implemented since September 21, 2020 for regional flights to Saint-Martin and Fort-de-France, air traffic "literally collapsed as soon as the reconfinement was announced from of October 30 ”, on the French territory and in Martinique. While at the end of September the traffic at Guadeloupe airport stood at 55% of the 2019 level, then at 45% at the end of October, the decrease was accentuated after the reconfinement, and the traffic is no longer than 29% of its 2019 level over the first 15 days of November.

This traffic is "weighed down" by the degradation of load factors and reductions in airline flight programs, especially on the transatlantic axis, underlines the press release from the airport. Air France has thus gone from 9 to 5 weekly frequencies (elimination of flights on Tuesdays and Sundays), Air Caraïbes from 9 to 6 weekly frequencies, and Corsair International from 6 to 4 flights ("double touchdown, planes serving Pointe à Pitre and Fort de France on the same rotation ”.

Very few passengers to Saint-Martin

The regional network is not spared, adds Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes, since the number of passengers is on average 19 to Saint-Martin and 20 to Martinique, “ie filling rates well below 50%”.

The lingering uncertainty about "the lifting, or at least the alleviation, of these travel restrictions is a source of concern at the start of the winter season, the importance of which is crucial for the entire industry. Guadeloupean tourism ”, concludes the airport. _AF
