Vast dismantling of a criminal organization in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin

On January 18, 2021, after a year and a half of investigations under the direction of the specialized inter-regional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Fort-de-France, the investigators of the research section of Pointe à Pitre and those of the zonal management the Antilles judicial police (DZPJ), the Anti-Narcotic Office (OFAST) and the Interministerial Research Group (GIR) of Guadeloupe put a stop to the vast trafficking of arms and narcotics on the island.

168 soldiers from numerous units of the Guadeloupe gendarmerie command (GIGN branch, research and territorial brigades, mobile gendarmerie, dog teams, criminal investigation technicians) and 65 police officers were engaged on Monday January 18, 2021 in a vast coordinated operation aiming at the arrest of 26 targets in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin.

  "An exceptional file that will make a milestone"

The investigation relates in particular to sales of arms and ammunition, trafficking in cocaine by air and the laundering of the money resulting from such trafficking. The case has already led to the seizure of 240 kilos of cocaine, 24 weapons, several thousand cartridges, 9 luxury motor vehicles, 5 large-capacity two-wheelers, 37 euros in cash, hundreds of bottles of vintage rums and a ten luxury watches worth a hundred thousand euros.

At the end of this large-scale operation, 15 people were referred, 6 were imprisoned.

The case, underlined by the prosecutor of the JIRS as "an exceptional file which will make date", also demonstrated the excellent cooperation between the gendarmerie and the police in the fight against organized crime.
