The SXM Vegans group organized a charity evening Tuesday evening at Wasabi Charlie.

This famous sushi restaurant in Simpson Bay was kindly made available to its staff by Pierre from "Pineapple Pete" the owner, whom SXM Vegans warmly thanks.

More than 70 people, most of the Sint Maarten business leaders, responded to this outpouring of generosity.

Four chefs specializing in take-out food, Jackie Sattler, Jenny Budhrani, Marianne Marchant and Maya Laungani, gave their time to delight participants in this fundraiser for Animal Defenders, with vegan roasted fillets, Japanese corn and panna cotta soup with coffee and chocolate. The combined talents of these chefs and caterers Nick and Nora, have carefully selected the alliance of drinks, including non-alcoholic cocktails, for each of the four dishes.

DJ Outcast, also a volunteer, was on the turntables to broadcast soft background music during this beautiful evening. A raffle with lots generously offered by many shops in Sint Maarten allowed to complete the collection.

The “St. Maarten Vegans” is a non-profit group of vegans founded in 2015 by Mercedes, Jenny, Jackie and Marianne later joined by Maya, Divina, Stefy, Mya and Amy, with the aim of meeting other vegans but also curious non-vegans. Its values are respect, compassion and good food, but without the animal suffering that inevitably generates the consumption of flesh.

The St. Maarten Vegans organize various events throughout the year to promote plant food alternatives and a more informed, ecological, healthier and more serene lifestyle.
