This Saturday, September 9, the Community of Saint-Martin organized the fifth edition of the Open Day dedicated to sports at the Vanterpool stadium in Marigot, a stadium which was full all morning.
A great success for this morning of discovery of the local sports associations. 38 of them were present for the open days, and the stands were in great demand by the public who came in large numbers. The representatives of the associations are unanimous about the success of the event, which allowed them to talk about their structure in diverse and varied disciplines such as athletics, badminton, baseball, boxing, running, cycling, dancing, football, gymnastics, golf, swimming, tennis, archery, sailing and volleyball. The emergence of new sports was particularly appreciated by young and old with the presence of associations like Saint-Martin Twirling Entertainment which did not fail to show its talent in stick handling or Netball, derived from basketball, sporting practice created by a feminist activist. The Golden Stars Flying High association occupied the basketball court to promote Rounders with the aim of supporting coach training. The Archiball team operated on the other part of the field, inviting anyone wishing to learn how to play the oval ball. Many young members actively participated in the success of the event by introducing visitors to their practice while passing on their passion.
The opportunity was therefore perfect for parents to finalize their child's registration for extracurricular activities and to engage in a sporting discipline of their choice. Note the presence of scouts and guides from France for the popular education component. In addition to the promotion of regular sporting practice and its benefits by the Youth and Sports Department of the Community, namely the reduction of stress, the improvement of the quality of sleep and the state of fitness in general, the prevention of chronic pathologies and the development of a feeling of belonging to a group, the open sports days allowed the associations present to create social bonds between them and to discuss various collaborative projects.
