It was the territorial advisor Louis Fleming, in charge of cooperation, who represented Saint-Martin at the 21st ordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), on January 18 and 19 in Haiti. The Collectivity applied to join the AEC. The file is now "in the hands of lawyers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, as well as the Ministry of Overseas". On the occasion of this event, "the French delegation proposed a treatment program for Sargassum algae in the Caribbean Sea, which is an overwhelming threat to tourist islands". The objective of this institution is "to strengthen and develop regional processes of cooperation and integration, with the objective of creating an economic, cultural, social, but also scientific and ecological space, extended to the entire Caribbean basin".
