St. Maarten Nectar local producer of natural cosmetic repellents "Bug O%" launched a campaign to fight the Zika virus.

A campaign was launched with the installation of more than 100 posters in public spaces such as supermarkets and pharmacies on the island. Zika is a virus transmitted mainly by the Aedes mosquito which is also responsible for dengue fever and yellow fever as well as the chikungunya virus

Representatives of the St. Maarten Nectar Society came to explain in various schools and kindergartens how to protect themselves and especially encourage children to develop habits to prevent mosquito bites. St. Maarten Nectar donated broadcasters as part of its corporate social responsibility program. Management points out that it is important to start campaigns in schools, "because our children grow up around mosquitoes and they may not have the feeling of urgency to protect themselves."

The company St. Maarten Nectar was founded in Saint-Martin in July 2010. For more information: www.StMaartenNectar.com
