An investigation has been opened in Paris after two false bomb threats last Saturday prompted two evacuations from the Eiffel Tower on the same day.
According to the public prosecutor, it is "quite usual to open an investigation after false bomb threats, which unfortunately occur frequently" and can target emblematic monuments such as the Iron Lady, or schools and airports. The investigations were entrusted to the police station of the 7th district of the capital, for threats of crimes against people and for the disclosure of false information "with the aim of making believe that a dangerous destruction for people is going to be or has been committed", said the prosecution. These offenses are punishable by two years' imprisonment and a fine of 30.000 euros. The Pharos reporting platform, attached to the judicial police, reported two false bomb threats that led to evacuations from the Eiffel Tower on Saturday.
