THEATER: "La Cantatrice Chauve", applauded as it should be

The premiere of Eugène Ionesco's great classic was held last Friday at the Théâtre de la Chapelle, sold out. The laughter still burst out from this representation completely far-fetched.

The scene is revealed on a garish, hype and English decor. The scenography by Laurence Blanc announces the color from the outset. Whether you like Ionesco or not, whether you know the theater of the absurd or not, you forget, you laugh, you have fun with non- sense and the pleasure of the actors. Situation comedy is not lacking in this particular theatrical style and instead of sticking to a typical staging, Laurence Blanc, director, had this marvelous idea of exacerbating the humor of the genre, not hesitating not to integrate modern and local references, or to make asides to the public. The story of an anecdote in Creole transformed the entire audience into an endless machine of laughter, supported by an impeccable and imperturbable performance by the actors on stage. Who would have thought one day to see a mime from "Questions for a champion" in a piece such as "La Cantatrice Chauve"? The spectators present dreamed of it without knowing it, the company of the Heads of Art did it. If the performance of Valérie Bal in the role of the maid masterfully dressed as Wednesday of the Adams Family was noticed and remarkable, her stage companions, Gilles Chadru, Jean-René Le Troquer, David Pennacchietti, Anna-Maria Scrimieri (who signs here her last stage appearance before her departure from the island) and Laurence Blanc herself, shone in these quirky roles, testifying to a real pleasure in interpreting these mythical characters. The silent actors of this piece proposed by the hilarious troupe are multiple and contributors to the success of this revisit: whether it is body language, silences, facial expressions or even repeated gags. “La Cantatrice Chauve” is not to be missed. Do your hair as you want but run for it. _VX
