The discipline of wingfoil will make its entry into the Caribbean Foil Championship next December.
Impossible to escape the trend of wingfoil, a new sliding sport, a discipline that follows the trend of the foil that has developed in recent years. It sits between kitefoil and windfoil, the sport combines the great foundations of these two disciplines into something completely new. The discipline consists of making your foil take off using an inflatable sail that you hold at arm's length using a boom or handles. This novelty allows the foiler to discover new sensations with unprecedented freedom of movement. An activity which is very successful and which will be part of the Caribbean Foil Championship organized in Orient Bay from December 10 to 12. “We felt it made sense to add a wingfoil race. We believe that foiling is meant to promote interest, excitement and engagement in the sport ”said Sacha van der Wouden (co-founder of the Caribbean Foiling Championships)
One race format
As the official format of the wingfoil race has yet to be developed by World Sailing, the race officials of the Caribbean Foil Championships have decided to have only one format. wingfoil racing including all levels. “The wingfoil class will have its own start and will mainly run on the same courses as the leisure classes (Wind and Kitefoil). The only difference is that the wingfoil class will not be competing in the Round the Island race on Sunday. Quite simply because it is a high risk course and we cannot guarantee their safety ”declared Sacha Daunar (race officer, Caribbean Foiling Championships) who specifies that other courses will be specially designed for wingfoilers. For those wishing to participate in the event, registration for the 2021 Caribbean Foiling Championships is now open.
