Social: A day to build intergenerational ties

Develop intergenerational links. It is with this objective that the association Le Manteau and the EHPAD Bethany Home organized a day of solidarity Monday, August 27, in the Galisbay car park.

"The idea was to bring residents of nursing homes and families in precarious situations, followed by Le Manteau around a recreational day," says Nellissa Oscar, animator at Manteau, at the initiative of the project. .

On the program: exercises with an occupational therapist for the elderly, meals (dishes prepared by Le Manteau, starter and desserts by Bethany Home), then dance, board games and swimming supervised by lifeguards. For the occasion, the EHPAD installed tents and mobile toilets in the parking lot by the beach.

In all, around twenty seniors and nearly fifty Manteau users were able to meet and share a friendly moment. "The goal is above all for children to pay attention to the elderly, that they respect them and help them even when no one asks them" explains Nellissa Oscar.

Children do not always have their grandparents on the island, and the grandchildren of Bethany Home residents are not necessarily on the territory either. But "beyond the family, it is above all a question of developing intergenerational links" specifies Jean-Marie Marchais, director of the EHPAD.
