On the night of Friday to Saturday, at around 00:30 a.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian, who later died at Sint Maarten Medical Center from a head trauma.

When the police and paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident that had just occurred on AJC Brouwers, a man was lying on the sidewalk and showed no sign of life. According to the first elements collected by the police, the pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk, in front of the ACE store, and in the direction of Kooyman Hardward. The driver of a white Kia Rio  was traveling at high speed and reportedly lost control of his vehicle, before hitting the curb on the right side of the road and being swerved to the left where he struck the pedestrian. The driver was arrested on the instructions of the prosecutor. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the loss of control of the car was due to a woman crossing the street, forcing the driver to brake hard to avoid her. The driver swerved and hit the shoulder of the road, causing him to lose control of his car and fatally injure the pedestrian. Police urge the woman crossing the road, or anyone else who could identify her, to contact the police traffic department to provide information, in order to facilitate the investigation. Information can be provided by e-mail, e-mailtraffic@policesxm.sx, by telephone on +721 542 22 22 ext. 241 or 239, or on the anonymous police hotline, 9300.
