Sint Maarten: hotel occupancy rate down 7% compared to May 2022

According to statistics produced by the SHTA (Sint Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association), the hotel occupancy rate in May 2023 is down 7% compared to May 2022, despite a slight increase in the number of rooms available (3368 in May 2023 against 3315 in May 2022).

The figures (comparison of hotel occupancy, timeshare, number of rooms available, average number of rooms occupied per day in May 2023 compared to the Covid-19 pandemic and before Hurricane Irma):

  Occupation:

• Hotels: 67,4% (in 2023), 74,3% (in 2022), 52,7% (in 2021), 61,4% (in 2017)

• Timeshare rental: 55,5% (in 2023), 55,9% (in 2022), 49,1% (in 2021), 70,2% (in 2017)

• Total occupancy: 59,4% (in 2023), 62,2% (in 2022), 50,3% (in 2021), 65% (in 2017)

Total rooms available: 3368 (in 2023), 3315 (in 2022), 3093 (in 2021), 3963 (in 2017)

• Average rooms occupied per day: 2000 (in 2023), 2061 (in 2022), 1555 (in 2021), 2575 (in 2017).

“The number of available rooms reflects the hotels and timeshares that have declared their occupancy, although our duly completed occupancy rates are generated on a voluntary basis by our members, a margin of error remains possible”, specifies the SHTA (Sint Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association). _AF
