CIVIC SERVICE: The Collectivity and the State welcome the commitment of eight young Saint-Martin women at the end of their contract

Sofia Carti-Codrington, 3rd Vice-President in charge of Local Life, chaired a ceremony for the presentation of end-of-contract certificates to young people in civic service, within the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, on Thursday, December 30 . The prefect, Serge Gouteyron was represented by Hélène Debruge, head of the legality and regulation service within the prefecture.

As the 3rd Vice-President recalled, the establishment of civic service in Saint-Martin began after the passage of Hurricane Irma, in 2018, with the opening of the Public Service Houses (MSAP). Assigned to the Orleans Quarter and Sandy Ground MSAPs, the young people in civic service are responsible for welcoming users and guiding them in their administrative procedures. They are placed under the direct authority of those responsible for the MSAPs.

Firstrd This year, a civic service session welcomed 8 young women, serving for 8 months in the two MSAPs, over a period from May 3 to December 31, 2021.

Each of the 8 young women received a certificate validating the 8-month contract and a gift offered by the Collectivity. All were delighted with the professional experience acquired within the MSAP and some of them are heading towards an administrative path.

For vice-president Sofia Carti-Codrington, "it is an enriching experience which favors contact with users and allows intergenerational exchanges through the aids that are offered". Mrs. Debruge underlined the important work of proximity of the young people in civic service, themselves coming from the districts where the MSAP are installed.

Towards a sustainable installation of MSAPs

Temporarily installed in prefabricated premises, in front of the Quartier d'Orléans stadium and in front of the Sandy Ground schools, the MSAPs are intended to be perpetuated over time and installed in more suitable premises. The Community is currently working on the rehousing of the two MSAPs.

From March 2022, the Quartier d'Orléans MSAP will be relocated to permanent premises rented from Semsamar. The Sandy Ground MSAP will be installed as part of the MJC space reconstruction project, currently being defined. A call for tenders will be launched in 2022 for the complete rehabilitation of this public place, which will eventually become a reception for cultural leisure activities, with a space dedicated to administrative services.

Civic service positions are funded by the Collectivité of Saint-Martin and the State. The system is renewed each year up to 10 recruitments every 8 months. Following the recruitment campaign carried out last October, the new civic services will take up their duties in the MSAP from January 3, 2022, for a period of 8 months.
