This is an announcement from the government which should be of great interest to two-wheeler owners in Saint-Martin. Indeed, from April 2024, scooters and motorcycles will be subject to technical inspection. The explanations.

The technical inspection of two-wheelers will be gradually implemented from April 2024 depending on the age of the vehicles. Very concretely, it is the registration date of your category L two-wheeler which will be taken into account.

What there is to know

– The first owners of two-wheelers concerned will be owners of a vehicle registered before January 1, 2017; they must carry out this check no later than December 31, 2024. Please note that for vehicles put into circulation before January 1, 2017 and whose anniversary date of the first entry into circulation is before April 15, this check is to carried out, at the latest, within four months from April 15, 2024.

– If your motorcycle or two-wheeler was registered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019, its technical inspection must be carried out in 2025.

– If your motorcycle or two-wheeler was registered between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, the check must be carried out in 2026.

– Finally, for two-wheelers registered after January 1, 2022, the first check must be carried out within six months preceding the expiration of a period of five years from the date of their first entry into circulation, then all the three years.

Road safety and compliance with environmental standards are the two main articulations of this technical control. “Excessive noise” or “excessive pollutants” will therefore be considered major defects according to the decree published yesterday in the Official Journal. The carbon monoxide content of exhaust gases will only be assessed for machines put into circulation after June 17, 1999.

Visibility, steering, braking, transmission, tires will be looked at closely. Please note that the noise reduction equipment (baffles, particularly removable ones) will also be closely monitored. _AF
