From the start of confinement and faced with the shortage of hydroalcoholic solution, the company Rhum Island and 3 pharmacists from Saint-Martin, Pharmacie de Grand-Case and Laborex, decided to provide equipment and their know-how. With the support of the Prefecture, this operation made it possible to produce 2200 liters in one week.
The first tank of alcohol arrived from Guadeloupe on Monday March 30. Thanks to donations from the Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy hospital and pharmacies, and a call to action, missing products are quickly found (hydrogen peroxide, glycerol). On Tuesday March 31, assembly of the gel began. It was carried out by 3 pharmacists, or 17 hours of packaging for the first 300 liters. After a break, the first liters were delivered on Friday April 3 to the Center Hospitalier de Saint-Martin, and Saturday April 4 to the Center hospitalier de Saint-Barthélemy.
