Saint-Barthélemy: Significant resources deployed to find an 11-year-old girl who disappeared at sea

An eleven-year-old girl has been missing since Tuesday, October 25 after falling into a hole by the sea in the "Petit Cul de Sac" area. According to the gendarmerie, the victim was sucked into a cavity, siphon type, at the level of the natural swimming pools.

Since Tuesday, significant resources have been deployed to try to find the victim, in vain. The search resumed yesterday morning. Many services are involved: the National Gendarmerie including divers, the Territorial Fire and Rescue Service of Saint-Barthélemy as well as reinforcements from Saint-Martin, the SNSM, the Coast Guard services of the Customs of Saint- Martin and the Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy.

Several private sector actors also volunteered. The nautical means engaged since the day before yesterday are coordinated by the Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue Antilles-Guyana. Reinforcements arrived yesterday, especially from Guadeloupe. Aerial means were also implemented. Psychological support is provided by an SMUR team for the victims, their parents and witnesses to the accident. The services of the Saint-Barthélemy hospital are alerted to anticipate any need and a listening unit is in place.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the gendarmerie of Saint-Barthélemy in order to establish the circumstances of this tragedy. _AF
