MP Raeyhon Peterson, a member of the Party For Progress (PFP) and St. Maarten's parliament has tested positive for COVID-19. Mr. Peterson, 29, made the announcement on his Facebook page on Wednesday, July 29. The MP said in his Facebook post that he has no symptoms and will remain in isolation for 14 days as a precaution. Below is his full post on Facebook.

“Considering all that is happening with the emergence of new cases and knowing that I had also participated in public gatherings, I made the decision to get tested, even though I have no symptoms. For the sake of transparency and to avoid bad rumors, I want to let people know that I tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. I am still asymptomatic but nevertheless I take all the necessary precautions and measures to protect my family and others. I was recommended to isolate myself for 7 days, but I would do so for two weeks to be healthy and safe.

To those who knew and who sent me messages of support, I say thank you. I feel good personally, but that does not detract from the gravity of the situation. My priority is that my family and those with whom I have been in contact are aware of this and take the necessary measures to protect themselves.

COVID-19 is not going to go away just because we want it to. This is why it is so important that everyone do their part and protect themselves as best they can, because this is how we will protect everyone else. If you feel unwell or show signs of COVID, please take the necessary steps to get tested and self-isolate for the recommended time. ”
