As a preamble to the plenary session of the territorial council meeting last week, the president of the Community announced the renovation of the Fort Louis marina in Marigot.

“The aging of the equipment and infrastructure at the Fort Louis marina now requires major renovation work. And in particular since the passage of Hurricane Irma which has finished damaging the structures, ”observes the president of the Community.

This took over the management of the site since January 1, 2019, before the management was provided by Semsamar as part of a public service delegation. "The DSP having ended without the reconstruction work having been carried out, the Collectivity took the decision to launch the complete renovation of this marina", adds Daniel Gibbs.

"In this context of restarting our tourism economy, it is essential to me to carry out these works quickly, and to respond, at the same time, to the problems of welcoming boaters and the safety of our marinas", justifies t -he.

Two weeks ago, the executive council approved the marina's reconstruction and rehabilitation project and the financing plan. "We will be requesting state funds through the convergence contract, which is currently being negotiated," says Daniel Gibbs. The COM will commit the sum of 5 million euros.

"This major marina project includes studies and project management, infrastructure work, work to upgrade electrical networks and public lighting, from the promenade of the West Indies shopping center to at the pier parking lot. There are also plans to renovate the harbor master's office, the Yacht Club, the covering and lighting of the large pier, ”explained the president.

The studies and the selection of companies have already been carried out for the first phase of work. “The work has just started. It will be fully completed in September 2020, "said Daniel Gibbs. (soualigapost.com)
