Museum: The Amuseum Naturalis reopened

0

The Amuseum Naturalis museum, created in July 2018 by the association Les Fruits de Mer, has just reopened after a few weeks of vacation. Located in Quartier d'Orléans, at The Old House, on the hill overlooking Galion Beach, the museum offers, among other things, exhibitions for visitors of all ages.

The Amuseum Naturalis is a museum, which is free to access, on the nature, history and culture of Saint Martin in particular, but also of the Caribbean. A completely voluntary project, the museum benefited from the voluntary participation of more than 300 people, who devoted more than 5000 hours to create and operate it. Particularly active locally, the Amuseum Naturalis has just organized the day of volunteering, Saturday October 19, and next Saturday November 9, the museum will host the 7th edition of the Festival of Migratory Birds.

In addition, the association Les Fruits de Mer has just received an official copy of the inventory which was launched on October 14 by the authorities and cultural institutions of Sint Maarten. This First National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage destined for Unesco lists elements of culture and local identity, such as traditional crafts and folklore. This document has been integrated into the Soualibra collection, the association's Saint Martin research library, and can be consulted by visitors.

Since its creation, the Amuseum Naturalis has welcomed more than 6000 visitors, including 2000 children from schools, youth groups and summer camps. Additional information can be found on the website http://amuseumnaturalis.com. _RM
