Parents who do not wish drive their children to school from May 11, for fear in particular of contracting the coronavirus, will not be obliged to do so: the Elysee Palace announced Thursday afternoon that a “principle of volunteering” will be valid for parents in the phase of deconfinement of the country, next month.

The start of the school year on May 11 will be “gradual, concerted with local elected officials and adapted to local realities,” added the Élysée, in particular depending on the size of the municipalities.

Priority will undoubtedly be given to “the youngest, those who are not independent”, as well as to the “most in difficulty” children, but in any event on the basis of the parents' voluntary service, “without obligation to return at school, ”says the Élysée.
