The Red Cross launches its food aid scheme

The Red Cross of Saint-Martin launched this Tuesday March 20 at 11 a.m. its food aid program at the Espace Santé Jeunes (Concordia).

The distribution took place exceptionally on a Tuesday to coincide with the visit of the director general of the French Red Cross, Jean-Christophe Combe traveling in the Antilles from March 18 to 22. "This is a new step in the reconstruction of Saint Martin's society and the activity of the Red Cross on the island," he said. He also praised the work of volunteers and employees and thanked the partners of the territorial delegation.

Food aid will be provided in each district according to a rotation system during the month on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Red Cross does not have premises in each district of the island, it will be accommodated for the time of distribution by the partner associations. Some 200 beneficiaries have been identified by Samu Social. Each beneficiary received a card containing their information and giving them the right to three distributions. He can thus recover at the distribution point closest to his home, a food basket per month, against a symbolic contribution of three euros per basket. At the end of which the beneficiary must return to see a social worker to reassess his rights.

This food aid scheme also concerns around fifty additional beneficiaries without a fixed address who will receive baskets (lighter) every two weeks in order to adapt to their lifestyle.
