On the night of Friday September 8 to Saturday September 9, a major earthquake shook the province of Al Haouz in Morocco, a few dozen kilometers from the tourist city of Marrakech. The earth shook there too, as well as in Ouarzazate, Chichaoua and Azilal with an intensity of 6,8 on the Richter scale.

The epicenter of this earthquake, which plunged the country into disarray, is located inside a tectonic plate, at the level of the High Atlas massif in the center of the country and in a zone with moderate seismic activity according to specialists. The phenomenon described as an intra-plate earthquake is rarer and little-known than the usual inter-plate earthquakes which occur in rupture zones in the earth's crust. The latest provisional report established yesterday by the Moroccan Interior Ministry lists 2.901 dead and 5.530 injured. Among the victims, fifteen French nationals were injured and four lost their lives: a young Franco-Moroccan couple living in Meaux in Seine-et-Marne on their honeymoon in Morocco, a mother who died during the collapse of her husband's house in a village between Marrakech and Agadir and a man who died of a heart attack during the earthquake. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs and Europe, Catherine Colonna, announced this Monday, September 11 that France would give 5 million euros in humanitarian credits intended for French and international non-governmental organizations already present and active in the disaster areas. This Wednesday, September 13, a charity concert entitled “All with Morocco” was held at the Palais des Sports in Paris for the victims of the most powerful earthquake ever measured in the country compared to the one that struck Agadir in 1960 (magnitude 5,7 ,12.000) causing the death of XNUMX people. The event organized in partnership with the French Red Cross and for the benefit of the Moroccan Red Crescent included, among others, performances by Patrick Bruel, M.Pokora, Hoshi, Faudel and Ycare. The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron said he was ready to send international aid to Moroccan soil, an offer that has remained unanswered for the moment. Moroccan authorities have accepted help from four countries since the powerful earthquake: Spain, Britain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. _VX
