The executive council of the Collectivity baptized the unnamed street which goes from the ferry terminal to the roundabout of the Methodist church while going around the market place rue des Sauveteurs en Mer, in tribute to the SNSM team members of Saint-Martin. The deliberation was taken on June 23, 2017 but the plaque had never been placed.

A ceremony to unveil a first plaque took place last Sunday between the ferry terminal and the market, in the presence of the president of the Collectivity, Daniel Gibbs, the secretary general of the Prefecture, Mikael Doré, the president of the SNSM of Saint -Martin, René-Jean Duret and many rescuers from the SNSM station in Saint-Martin.

The SNSM of Saint-Martin was created in 2000, it has about fifty active members and about thirty lifeguard teammates likely to go to sea in the event of an alert.

Saint-Martin's lifeguards will now have a dedicated street in the heart of Marigot, along the ferry terminal.

The president of the community praised the commitment of the rescuers at sea, who are volunteers within the SNSM and who take risks to save lives and boats.

Note that after the ceremony, an “Open Doors” day was organized in the premises of the SNSM station in Saint-Martin, as part of the national holiday of lifeguards at sea.
