GASTRONOMY: Saint-Martin ranks seven times in the podium of the 50 best restaurants in the Caribbean

Cuisine, service and atmosphere are, according to the Caribbean Journal, the essential ingredients for any good restaurant. As its name suggests, the Caribbean journal pays particular attention to Caribbean content, with a focus on travel and tourism in the basin.

Each year, this media releases a list of the 50 best restaurants in the Caribbean. "Whether you're at a seaside food stand or a Michelin-level dining destination, the Caribbean is brimming with world-class dining experiences, a reminder that this remarkable part of the world is a global dining destination in its own right" , writes in the introduction to this collection the Caribbean journal.

Saint-Martin appears seven times in this ranking, with six restaurants partly French and one partly Dutch. At the very top of the ranking, we find the Pressoir, in Grand Case, tied with the Brass Boer, in Bonaire. A list whose precise criteria remain mysterious and which may appear arbitrary, in favor of certain establishments, but beyond individual advertising, it is a very good promotion for the destination as a whole.

Caribbean recognition

According to Aïda Weinum, director of the Tourist Office, this classification makes it possible to reinforce the notoriety of Saint-Martin cuisine, and thus of the destination, with regional and international markets thanks to Caribbean recognition. “The Caribbean Journal article is read by the islands around. Our cuisine therefore affects not only the Caribbean basin, but also the entire tourism sector since the media on which this ranking was published is dedicated to this sector”.

Local cuisine, a showcase of St Martin

The list of the 50 best restaurants in the Caribbean supports, in its own way, the work that the Tourist Board tries to do when traveling outside. “We promote Saint-Martin by discovering local culinary tastes and flavors,” says Aïda Weinum. The latest, at the US market, with the visit of Kareem Brooks and Kenila Hyman – chefs from Saint-Martin, who gave cooking demonstrations at the Essence eats & food wine Festival, in New Orleans.

The laureats

Le Pressoir (Grand-Case), Bistrot Caraïbes (Grand-Case), Sky is the limit (Grand-Case), Le Cottage (Grand-Case), Ocean 82 (Grand-Case), the Tropicana (Marigot) and the Roxxy Beach at (Simpson Bay). _pc
