FESTIVITIES: A still popular July 14th!

Like every year, the national holiday rhymed with popular success, this Friday, July 14 in the French part. Whether for the traditional parade or even for the Republican glass and the fireworks preceding the concert on the Marigot Sea Front, the public responded.

As usual, the morning was devoted to official celebrations, starting with an ecumenical mass in the Catholic Church of Marigot. Elected officials, civil and military authorities as well as members of the government of Sint Maarten then attended the traditional July 14 parade on rue de la République before going to the gardens of the Hôtel de la Collectivité for the laying of wreaths in front of the Memorial.

The official ceremony continued on the Sea Front with the speeches of the officials followed by the presentation of medals. Thus, Mr. Hodge, entrepreneur emeritus of Soualiga Farm Colombier was awarded by Louis Mussington  Community Medal.

By order of the Delegate Prefect of the Northern Islands, Vincent Berton, fourteen territorial agents were also honored by the President of the COM. They received the national medal (gold level) for the longevity of their professional career (more than 40 years, editor's note) in the service of the population of Saint-Martin.

After the reception which came to close this morning dedicated to the official ceremonies, many activities took over throughout the afternoon. To the delight of children and parents alike!

Between the traditional sailboat race organized in the bay of Marigot, the pedestrian race on July 14, the performances of young talents on the stage set up on the Sea Front, the pyrotechnic show fired at 21 p.m. which amazed the crowd and the concert given by talented local artists, July 14 made in Saint-Martin brought together thousands of people delighted to celebrate the national holiday in joy and good humor.
