The black series continues! A 20-year-old scooter driver died last Monday in Grand-Case following an accident. How sad !
A new fatal traffic accident between a car and a two-wheeler occurred last night, Monday April 29 at 21:10 p.m. in Grand Case, the prosecution said.
As a vehicle drove towards Hope Estate, a scooter driver (without a license plate) set out to pass him on the left. As another vehicle was coming in the opposite direction, the scooter driver fell back to the right in an attempt to avoid it and collided laterally with the vehicle he was passing at the driver's side door. In the maneuver, he tore off the mirror. Unbalanced, he crossed the road to finish his race on an EDF block leaning against a concrete wall.
The driver of the scooter, a 20-year-old Saint-Martinois, died despite the intervention of the emergency services and the doctor present on site. Blood tests for alcohol and drug tests were not possible. An autopsy is planned.
The shocked 58-year-old motorist was taken to Saint-Martin hospital. His blood alcohol test came back negative.
An investigation, to determine the exact causes of the accident, is opened under the authority of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Basse-Terre.
The Gendarmerie joins in the pain of loved ones in the face of this new drama which mourns Saint Martin. A new call for vigilance and respect for safety rules is renewed. The next Road Safety Forum on the initiative of institutional and associative partners, which will take place on May 14 and 16 in Saint-Martin, should be an opportunity for collective awareness of the dangers of the road concerning two-wheelers in particular.
