The investigation into the attempted robbery of the Jump-Up Casino, which took place around a quarter past midnight on Wednesday, June 6, revealed the identity of one of the perpetrators, who died on the spot. This is Daniel Cherry, 20, resident of Sandy Ground, French side, informs the Sint Maarten police in a press release.
As a reminder, three armed men (and not four as it had previously been indicated) and dressed in black had burst into the casino threatening everyone, including the employees, so that they could be given money. They had fired shots and a police officer, not on duty but present at the scene, retaliated and hit one of the robbers who died of his injuries. Two employees were also injured during the exchange of gunfire.
The unit specializing in robberies on the Dutch side announced on Wednesday evening that one of the injured employees was in stable but critical condition and had therefore been transported outside the island to receive more detailed treatment.
