Elie Gibs Elementary School: anger is raging among parents of students!

0

We are in February 2018, almost 6 months after Irma. While many establishments are operating normally, in Grand Case, it is still a daily hassle at all levels, says parents of students.

“The Elie Gibs primary school hosts the Ghislaine Rogers nursery school, closed from Irma in view of the risks run by the children and the teaching staff. We were told that it should be rebuilt, which suggests a delay of at least 2 years, or at best a return to school possible for September 2020 ”, specifies a parent delegate.

Also the Elie Gibs elementary school was strongly affected by Irma and cannot optimize all the reception space since the classes upstairs, due to lack of work, thereby cut 50% of its capacity whereas today today it doubles its workforce!

This raises BIG PROBLEMS de SAFETY, HYGIENE et PEDAGOGIC for children and teachers,FAMILY ORGANIZATION for the parents.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the most important points encountered:

- The imposed rhythm is not suitable for primary or nursery school, the children are tired, and therefore have direct repercussions on family life.

- Timetable reminder: 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. for primary and 12:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. for kindergarten, direct consequences:

- The teachers must reorganize the "classroom" space. They have to move the furniture several times a day, and this every day, in order to adapt it to the students, a lot of handling, which causes serious back problems!

- The housekeepers only have 30 minutes to clean all the rooms, which is of course insufficient. What do the Petite, Moyen and Grande Section students do?

They are waiting outside for the ground to dry!

There is no canteen. Some children come with their meals, and others have not had lunch before going to school!

- Unfortunately, there is no nap for the Middle Kindergarten Section due to a lack of beds and space. Consequence: they are tired and excited at the end of the day which is very harmful for their growth. When they are really too tired, they sit at their desks.

- The toilets are not suitable for kindergarten students, this implies a complicated hygienic sanitary procedure for the teaching staff,

- A lack of sports equipment and no place to store it. Also the kindergarten bikes and scooters were stolen.

- The furniture is not suitable for kindergarten students. He is too tall, their feet do not touch the ground.

- No air conditioning in the classes, the temperature can rise up to 35 °!

- For parents who have one child in primary and the other in kindergarten, it is a real headache.

- An additional financial burden for parents who have to look after the children in the morning or afternoon, or even the whole day if primary siblings + kindergarten siblings, to feed them, not to mention the case mentioned above!

- On Wednesdays all administrations are closed which poses a serious security problem. The school has no contact person in the event of serious problems within the school.

- The teaching staff feels abandoned and at the end of the line in the face of all these educational and material inconsistencies.

"Know our determination to be heard and we will use all possible means to be heard!" We must react for the good of our schools and our children, ”conclude the parents and the teaching staff.

Note that a meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 2, bringing together the teaching staff, the delegated parents, the inspectors of National Education and the Community._AF
