Last Friday, October 20, the president of the Community, Louis Mussington was received by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, with sixty elected officials from Overseas, including the senator from Saint-Martin, Annick Petrus, and the signatories of the call from Fort-de-France. Overseas prefects were also present.

The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, the Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories, Gérald Darmanin as well as the Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories, Philippe Vigier, represented the government alongside President Macron.

The meeting was held at the Élysée Palace in Paris, on the theme of the statutory evolution of overseas territories and priority subjects.

This meeting was an opportunity to defend with determination the measures taken within the framework of the Interministerial Committee for Overseas Territories (CIOM), security, employment, the cost of living, infrastructure, with the aim of finding solutions to the specific issues of our territories.

President Mussington requested financial support from the State for Cipim, the holding company which will take over the Air Antilles company. This is a crucial sector for the Saint-Martin economy and territorial continuity.

In addition, the president insisted on the need to evolve the organic law of 2007 to better meet the specific needs of our region.

The President of the Republic was very clear: there is no taboo subject. This openness to dialogue and cooperation is a positive sign of our shared commitment to progress and improving the lives of our fellow citizens.

Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to advance these crucial causes for Saint-Martin and overseas.
