It is from 18 p.m., at sunset, that the opening of the artist's exhibition, Claudio Arnell, will take place tomorrow evening, in front of the Marigot cemetery.

Through a fruitful collaboration between the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and the Head Made Factory Association (HMF), the artist Claudio Arnell highlights a pictorial installation on a human scale of his work entitled "MUR DIGITAL VEGETAL" .

Set the scene

We all know that the All Saints period is a special time to pay tribute to our deceased. This tradition, which is deeply rooted in the hearts of the population, manifests itself in the flowering of burials; the Artist therefore proposes an artistic and cultural extension of this ritual dear to our island. This moment of contemplation, of silence but also of exchange, is open to all who wish to share it.

When photography paints and not vice versa…

Claudio Arnell was born in Saint Martin. He lives and works on the island. After a DMA (Diploma of Arts and Crafts) in architectural decoration at Olivier de Serres, a license and a master in Plastic Arts at Paris 1, La Sorbonne as well as a course at the National School of Fine Arts in Nice, Villa Arson; in 2016, he returned to his native land. Today, everything has to be rebuilt!

In 2010, Claudio created the official emblem of the community of Saint-Martin. “Travel, flight, exile are for me so many successive accidents where people drift in search of the obvious. My paintings and photographs open up parallel fields where I allow myself to explore these routes. My photographs reflect the real and the unreal, the full and the empty, the sharp and the blur as well as the infinite in detail and vice versa: I try to visually savor the essence of the term "Melting-Pot".

It all started by putting a pencil on paper! Drawing is my first creative love ... which quickly turned into a curiosity for combinations of colors and textures with painting, which then led to the manipulation of forms through sculpture and design. Finally, throughout the process, the possibilities of playing with perception have always been for me a main source of motivation where I took advantage of photography.

My lines of research are mainly centered around pictoriality: through the material, texture, color and nuances but above all the conceptual mix of mediums.

I work the series as a digital sketch where I constantly question the notion of the line in the composition.

Let us consider any form of line as being a limit, or even seeing a border at the source: What are the means made available in order to cross it and get free of it?

My work is directed by a certain spontaneity and a synchronized chance of the creative process. On the other hand, all image processing is done upstream and is played before the 'CLICK'! From now on, I'm talking about INSTANT DIGITAL PAINTINGS: Once the photograph has been taken, the image captured, I don't touch it until it is exposed. This game of mise en abyme reveals the fragility of the image which, even in abundance, seems by flow characteristic, to escape its imprint.
