Coronavirus: A deconfinement plan under discussion for Saint Martin

0

Several meetings will take place this week about the reopening of schools, shops, bars, restaurants and beaches in Saint-Martin.

The particular situation of the overseas territories and in particular of the Collectivities of Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy leads to consider a specific and differentiated approach, conditioned in particular by the state of health.

Respect for confinement until May 11 is essential

The coming week is decisive for the launch of deconfinement operations. The population is called upon to maintain its efforts for the implementation and the success of deconfinement to avoid the resumption of the epidemic.

A deconfinement plan validated for Saint-Barthélemy

Due to the absence of active cases since April 21, the Prefect, Sylvie Feucher conducted consultations with the President of the Collectivity of Saint Barthélemy, in conjunction with the ARS, to develop a deconfinement plan which was validated by the President of the Republic.

The health situation of Saint-Martin is not yet fully restored with 2 active cases still but the deconfinement strategy must already be studied. A series of meetings will take place this week:

  • the 5 May with directors of private schools not under contract,
  • the 7 May with the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, National Education and the ARS to validate, after an initial consultation, the conditions for the reopening of schools on May 11
  • an encounter to be scheduled to address the economic recovery, the timetable and the conditions for reopening businesses. The relaxation of the rules determined at national level (date of reopening of shops, restaurants and cafes) is not yet acted
  • a meeting with the ARS and the Collectivity of Saint-Martin to validate the conditions precedent to the reopening of the beaches for swimming only (analysis of bathing water in particular)

The deconfinement plan resulting from these consultations will be distributed after validation by the French Overseas Ministry.
