The interministerial delegate, Mr. Philippe GUSTIN, and his Dutch counterpart, Mr. Hans LEIJTENS, met yesterday at the end of the afternoon in The Hague for a working meeting aimed at discussing the future priorities of Franco-Dutch cooperation on the island of Saint-Martin. Concrete proposals for cooperation will be formulated in the coming weeks and submitted to the next “quadripartite” forum bringing together the two States, the community of Saint-Martin and the autonomous government of Sint-Maarten, which will take place in early 2018 in Saint-Martin.

The representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the French Republic met in The Hague to exchange their views on ways to intensify bilateral cooperation in the field of reconstruction and in other fields of interest to the Netherlands, France, the community of Saint-Martin and the autonomous government of Sint Maarten. This meeting follows a series of technical and political meetings organized at the highest level in recent months between the two countries. The meeting was an opportunity to underline the strong solidarity between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the French Republic in the process of reconstruction of the island of Saint-Martin, hard hit by Hurricane IRMA. Wishing to rebuild the island in close cooperation in favor of the populations of Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten, the Dutch and French parties have agreed to continue their exchanges on a regular basis, in particular on the occasion of the next "quadripartite" forum which will bring together the 2018 the Dutch and French governments, the community of Saint-Martin and the government of Sint Maarten. Concrete cooperation measures in the area of ​​reconstruction will be proposed on this occasion.
