Containment: How to complete the travel certificate on a smartphone

1

Since the start of confinement, the exceptional travel certificate had to be made on paper. Since Monday April 6, 2020, it can now be done on a smartphone.

Tired of printing exit certificates for you and your family every day? Good news: your life as confined at the time of the coronavirus will become less tedious thanks to the digital certificate, available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior from this Monday, April 6.

Forget about computers, sheets of paper, printer and ink cartridges: to complete this new derogatory certificate, all you need is your smartphone.

How does it work?

To complete your digital certificate, nothing could be simpler. First step: open your internet browser, go to the website of the Ministry of the Interior and click on “generate” a certificate. For security reasons, we advise you not to go to any other sites that offer the same service.

Second step: a page with a form is displayed in your browser. Fill it in with your name, first name, date and place of birth, postal address. Then choose your reason (s) for travel (it is possible to tick several boxes), the date of your outing and the time of your outing.

Last step: once these fields have been filled in, click on the “Generate my certificate” button. A PDF file is then automatically saved in your phone. You just have to display it (and know how to find it in your smartphone) in the event of an inspection.

Note that when you want to generate a new certificate (which will be mandatory on each trip), you will have to fill it all out again. The different fields are cleared each time.

How does the control take place?

If you are subject to a security check during your trip, just show them your smartphone with the downloaded certificate. You may have noticed: unlike the paper certificate, the digital certificate has a QR Code. It is this square symbol that the police or gendarmes will scan, with an application called CovidReader, an Android application,

In addition to the exit time that you have indicated, the police will be able to see the time at which the certificate was generated. “This will prevent people from completing the certificate just in view of a police check”, explained the Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner.

Can I continue to use the paper version?

Absolutely! The digital certificate is not compulsory. You can therefore continue to use the hard copy, printed or handwritten version, if you prefer. The main thing is to be in possession of a certificate if you leave your home.
