International conference on sargassum in Guadeloupe: Territorial advisor, Pascale Alix Laborde spoke!

Organized by the Guadeloupe Region and the State, the international conference on sargassum takes place until October 26 at the World trade center in Baie-Mahault. Edouard Philippe, the Prime Minister, will close it after a summit with the heads of delegation and the presidents of the communities. Before that, the territorial councilor, Pascale Alix Laborde intervened on behalf of the community of Saint-Martin and its president.

The second day was dedicated to sharing experiences and highlighting the struggle, collection and promotion strategies implemented in the territories.

The objective of this transversal work: to put in place effective and lasting actions to protect our populations and our coastlines.

In her speech, Ms. Laborde recalled the challenges for the territory of Saint-Martin, socio-economic and tourism issues, and the need for territories impacted by sargassum, to benefit from strong support (human and financial) from the 'State to stem the scourge of sargassum.

Beyond the treatment of this marine litter which is incumbent on the communities, the question of the health of the people exposed and the damage to the environment, was asked by the territorial adviser, who also insisted on the richness of our common biodiversity and the pressing need to protect it.

Ms. Laborde also recalled the collective interest of enhanced cooperation in our Caribbean region, to effectively fight sargassum through adapted and co-funded mechanisms.
