Cité Scolaire: New action Parents-School life-Teachers yesterday morning

0

The blockade of the school complex started on Tuesday by parents, teachers and the school life staff of the college continued yesterday all day.

On Monday January 7, 2019, the staff and parents of students from Soualiga middle school noticed that the 6 mobile classes on the middle school side of the school complex were far from over, contrary to the umpteenth promise made by the actors in charge of construction on the eve of the Christmas holidays.

As a reminder, the delivery of these mobile classes - condition of normal schooling in the Cité Scolaire - had been announced for the start of the September 2018 school year, then for the end of October 2018, then for the start of the All Saints holidays, then for the end of December 2018 and finally for the start of the January 7, 2019 ... An inauguration was even scheduled for Friday January 11.

Many delays can only be attributed to external elements (lost material, rain, winds, boat delay).

The state of the building site on January 6, on the eve of the start of the school year, was the last straw that broke the camel's back. An action began on Tuesday, January 8 to express anger and refusal to continue operating ad vitam aeternam in such degraded conditions and to denounce a series of empty promises.

We are aware that this action disrupts school organization, but we must all understand that every day, for months, the success of children is really jeopardized by the conditions that all undergo, and it is because of this. that we are mobilized:

• second disturbed and abnormal school year;

• punctuated timetables, aberrant school rhythms;

• overcrowding: tensions and fights in the courtyard and around the school complex;

• disrupted learning and significant drop in results;

• student absenteeism and loss of motivation.

It is thus the future of the children of Saint Martin that is sacrificed.

It is time that solutions are found to complete the work and give the students a normal education, worthy of the Republic.

On January 8, a delegation made up of parents and national education staff was received by IA-DAASEN and the school heads. She expressed her deep despair at a situation that does not change as well as the loss of confidence in the words of those involved in the construction of mobile classes. The following points were discussed at this meeting:

• what means of pressure exist to oblige the contractor mandated for these constructions to respect his contractual commitments?

• what firm and final delivery date can be given?

• who will be able to certify compliance with and respect for building safety standards?

• what remedies and what solutions could be envisaged in the event that these certificates are not issued?

• how to secure the surroundings of the establishment?

• how to improve school transport in order to prevent students from staying around the City for hours?

The following schedule has been outlined:

• Wednesday January 9, 2019 14 p.m .:

Meeting of the Collective with the Chargé de Mission for the Reconstruction of the Rectorate and the EDA to study the conformity of the construction

• Friday January 11, 2019:

- request for a meeting of the Collective with the Rector of the Academy of Guadeloupe, IA-DAASEN, the President of the Collective, the other actors of the reconstruction, in the presence of the entrepreneur

- request for a meeting of trade unions with the Rector

We await confirmation by the services of the Rectorate of the precise schedule of these meetings.

We count on everyone's understanding and mobilization, the future depends on it.

The PEP - School Life - Teachers Collective, with the support of the FSU - SNES, SPEG, SE UNSA trade unions.
