As part of the year of Olympism from school to university, the association USEP Iles du Nord, the Department of National Education, the district UNSS Iles du Nord offer a challenge to the students of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin: For schoolchildren, middle school and high school students, it is 6 km to travel virtually to the city of Paris, a candidate for the 726 Olympic Games.

This participatory sports project, labeled by the Ministry and recognized as innovative by the Academy of Guadeloupe, aims to promote sport as an educational tool and to mobilize the entire educational community around Paris's bid for the 2024 Olympic Games in emphasizing civic and sporting values.

This school project has the privilege of having as its sponsor the 2016 Olympic vice-champion in team foil, Jean-Paul TONY-HELISSEY, whose visit to Saint-Martin with the pupils last September was very much appreciated.

Meeting with

Jean-Paul Tony-Helissey

Why did you agree to be the sponsor of the RUN TO PARIS project?

“I agreed to sponsor Run to Paris 2024 because this project makes perfect sense. Indeed, making all of the students of the Northern Islands aware of the Paris 2024 candidacy through sport, and particularly in a relay race, makes it possible to transmit the values of effort, solidarity, team spirit which are at the heart of Paris' candidacy.

Also to help young people (even far from the capital) feel an integral part by contributing to the building, namely, obtaining the Olympic Games. Also the Paris Games in 2024 represent a generation project, these children who will participate in this event will perhaps be the champions of tomorrow in Paris. And this is where my role of sponsor takes on its full meaning because the example of my career (young person who grew up in the Caribbean) can help them materialize their dreams and tell themselves that they can be grasped with work and willingness. I intend to support them with various messages and videos during the main stages of the journey. And if my schedule allows it, return to Saint-Martin to materialize my support ”.

A word from the president of the USEP:

Jean-Luc Elice: "It is really a pleasure and a privilege for the USEP Iles du Nord to have a champion like Jean-Paul TONY-HELISSEY, sponsor of our project, because he is an example for our youth. saint-martinoise by promoting important values such as respect and a taste for effort. These are also values that we find at USEP and moreover in RUN TO PARIS 2024. Thanks to it, the students of Saint-Martin will be able to familiarize themselves with fencing which is an unknown Olympic sport with many values. ".

The next stage of RUN TO PARIS 2024 will take place during the Olympic and Paralympic week from 23 to 27 January 2017.

To date, the students have already covered 900 km. However, it will still be necessary to reach Paris by completing the 6 km!
